/Tips for overcoming life's plateau/

Does anyone else ever feel like you're not doing enough? Like you should be seeing the world and experiencing and learning new things every day, instead of sitting in bed watching Sex And The City repeats while forcing your dog to stay in your room so you'll feel less lonely ? Because that's pretty much what is happening right this second.

I always have so many ideas for things I want to do in summer and my friends and I have been looking forward to 'the best summer ever' since January. The best summer ever has now arrived and well, it aint so great. I've been feeling down recently, like I'm stuck in a rut, so I've pulled together some tips that can hopefully help you as well as me!

1. Go for a walk. It might sound simple but I find taking my dog to the park really fun and relaxing and being out of the house is always a bonus.

2. Learn a new recipe. Cooking is not my forte but I do love learning new things, even if it's something as simple as baking cookies, the process and the end product are great pick me ups.

3. Speak to old friends. I'm not talking about the people who are out of your life for a reason, but sometimes there are people we really care about but never see. Organise to do something, it will make you feel better I'm sure!

4. Don't be scared of doing things alone. The thought of going anywhere alone can be very daunting for some people, but never be afraid to just go out and grab something to eat/drink by yourself. Take your iPod and just chill out. (Music can help with just about anything)

5. Lipstick is your best friend on a bad day. A motto everyone should live by.

6. Appreciate what you have. It may sound cliche but I let the little things in life really get to me sometimes, and I guess it's good to just take a step back and focus on the positive and not the negative.

7. Don't feel guilty about staying in your pyjamas watching tele all day. Sometimes I feel bad for sitting and doing nothing, like I should be climbing a mountain or doing something courageous instead. Occasionally it's ok to just sit and do nothing at all. I need to remember that!

8. 'You're young, you have your whole life ahead of you'. Something I am told a lot, and most of the time I just let it wash over me. But on bad days it helps put things in perspective. I'm 19, I don't have to live my whole life in this one summer.

I'm not sure if these are helpful tips but I guess I'm just trying to say that trying harder to be happy rather than sitting around in the sad can make for a better day!
