/ Current Uni project / - The sweet smell of celebrity

Friday, January 17, 2014

Since I seem to neglect this blog a little during assignments at university, I've decided a good way to combine the 2 is to create some posts based around what I'm studying and sources of inspiration for current projects I'm working on!
It's also a good place for me to collate some of my research and findings all in one place.

(For those of you who didn't know, I'm studying Fashion Promotion at University and I'm currently in the second semester of my 1st year.)

The brief: (basic points)

  • Choose a famous character, person or celebrity and select and artist (photographer, sculptor, illustrator) whose work you think reflects your character.
  • In the style of/or inspired by your chosen artist you should design and create the packaging of a new celebrity fragrance.
27 days till deadline!

If you've been following my blog for a while you'll know I have a big heart for IT girl Alexa Chung - so it was a no brainer to choose her for this assignment. The harder pick of the 2 was an artist or artists work which linked with Alexa.

When scrolling through her instagram feed (for research purposes of course...) I stumbled across this image:

Where she thanks 'alia_pop' for helping her with a collaboration with Eyeko! 'Alia_pop' turns out to be Alia Penner: A fabulous L.A based illustrator and artist who creates amazing pieces with acid hues and psychedelic colours! JACKPOT!

Her dream-like retro collages are fabulous and I can't wait to look into her work more!
I think she's a perfect fit for Alexa don't you?

Let me know what you think of these posts...

  1. Love these type of posts to see what sort of work you do at uni! If you don't mind me asking what subjects did you take at A level?

    2. Thanks, hope I didn't sound nosy ahaa! I've chosen subjects to take at Sixth Form which i hope will get me into what ever career I choose, either fashion photography or something in fashion. I'm going to take 3 A-levels including photography and Btec Textiles. Thanks again!

    3. No not at all! I don't mind :-) yeah those subject sound fab! With university, although they want you to have some sort of knowledge of fashion it's a little more laid back (if that's the right word?) than say you were taking law where you'd have to of studied English or whatever! You can even do things at home to add to your portfolio, but aslong as you have knowledge of fashion and it's what you want to do and you have a portfolio whether it's full of photography or artwork or textile pieces, when it comes to interview you should be fine!! Sorry for the dead long answer haha! Good look at sixth form! X
