My 1st brief of 2nd year...aaarrghhh! All I keep saying in my mind is 'it counts, it counts, it counts' and I've been freaking myself out a little but a few days ago we handed in and I am pretty pleased with the outcome!
The brief (basic points)
- Choose a department store from this list, Harvey Nichols, Debenhams, Selfridges or John Lewis
- Choose a holiday or a strapline and design a postcard campaign for the chosen store (4 postcards)
- The 4 postcards must represent a home, fashion, food and beauty department within the store
So I decided to choose Harvey Nichols as I love the cheeky, witty nature of their campaigns and I felt this is something I'd love to work with and put my own spin on.
My idea/strapline was the upcoming Boxing Day sales and I chose to incorporate some boxing terminology and props into my postcards! I then came up with the hashtag/strapline 'knock 'em dead' to play on the Harvey Nichols' tongue-in-cheek humour. For the image I took photos with 2 models holding various props in some red boxing gloves and then photoshopped them into my final piece.
I also added a competition to the back of my postcards for extra promotion within the store.
This week has been quite a stressful one as I'm coming to the end of my 1st year at Uni and I'm handing in my final project in 11 days! AAaaahhhhh! I've been off from Uni for the past two weeks for our Easter break, but it has not been a break for me! I've either been working on my project or have been at actual work and I just cannot wait for summer! (I break up on the 8th of May until September...Very excited)
This weeks Uni project:
As some of you seemed quite interested in my previous Uni assignment posts, I thought I'd share my latest one with you. Although this CAD project isn't my main assignment, it's still a fairly interesting one!
We had to design a t shirt for a chosen brand for S/S 14 - using the dreaded Adobe Illustrator... (I am still coming to terms with it and right now, it is the devil). The design could be focused on a message, print or a current trend.
I looked to the current logo/slogan trend for inspiration and teamed it with the emerging pop art trend to design a tee for House Of Holland, since HOH are pretty famous for their quirky slogan tee's I thought the two went hand in hand.
So today was the day that I handed in my window display! If you didn't catch my last uni project post, I had to create a window display for a chosen store based on an event, day or trend during Spring/Summer '14.
I decided to create a display for Urban Outfitters, specifically the Manchester City Centre store, and my day was 'World Music Day' which is on the 21st of June every year!
We had the choice to make a 2d or 3d model, and I thought a 3d model would be a lot more visual and interactive!
The picture below is the finished result, the idea being that a live band is playing in the window!
Bringing music back to the streets of Manchester in a way that has never been done before. Urban Outfitters Amplified presents World Music Day 2014:
Hello guys! Can you believe it's March already?...I feel like this year is flying by and I'm not taking advantage of every moment! Life really can just pass you by sometimes. I seriously need to take a step back and look at my New Years resolutions for 2014 too, because they have not been stuck to...at all!
This weeks uni project:
So like I said in my previous post, my current assignment is based around window displays, so on Thursday our class visited Manchester city centre to see Spring/Summer 's 2014 windows. This one is of Harvey Nichols and it's my favourite one from the trip, very fashion factory! Let me know if you've seen any interesting windows recently!
This weeks purchase:
While in Manchester I had to have a quick (which turned in to a very long) stop in Zara! I've been lusting over this pearl chocker for a while now so I decided to pick it up. It's a really simple piece to have and adds a little something to any outfit!

This weeks instagram post:
Here is a selfie of me and my best friend of many many years, Daisy! We were heading out on a much needed night out...only the 2nd one of this year! Are you sure I'm a real student???
My Instagram name is : _AmyBurgess
This weeks most played:
Yes the most talked about woman of the year so far...Beyonce! I'm going to see her at the o2 on Tuesday and I cannot wait! Partition is a particular favourite of mine and one that I blast the loudest in my car!
Hope you've had a great week!
Amy
So here we are, the 2nd brief of 2014! This one is focusing on visual merchandising and in more detail, window displays! I'm actually really excited about this assignment and I can't wait to get started!
So, the brief:

I've finished! It's official, hand in was this week and I was SO happy to finally finish and hand in this project...designing and creating a package was a lot harder than I first thought!
The final piece:
I've always enjoyed reading these Sunday type of posts on other peoples blogs. It's nice to get to know the blogger behind the screen and me being the typically nosey person I am I love to know what everyones getting up to!
So here I am jumping right on to the old bandwagon with a Sunday post. I'm yet to decide on the name (I'm trying to think of something witty.... it's not quite happening yet) so for now I'll just call it Sunday.
Unfortunately my life isn't as exciting as other bloggers and I'm not in London having fabulous meetings and going for coffee with my friends. I've actually spent my week here in Blackpool taking my dog for walks, watching The Carrie Diaries and being a full time student.
This may be the most boring Sunday post you've ever read but don't let me put you guys off...keep on reading for the gripping details on my life.
Just over a week ago I shared a different type of post, showing you all my new brief from University and some of my initial ideas. I decided to add a follow on post to show you guys how I'm doing with the project and some pieces of work I've made.
Collage has always been my favourite type of medium to work with and I try and incorporate it into many of the projects that I do, as drawing and painting aren't my strong point. I've combined the image of Alexa and some of the key motifs used by my chosen artist, Alia Penner to create the following pieces:
(I am by no means a pro on photoshop, I am quite the opposite but I'm using it nearly everyday and creating new things to practise practise practise)
15 days till deadline!
